THE PEGASUS BRIDGE SHOW: A DVD THE PEGASUS BRIDGE SHOW was commissioned from Michael in 2009, in order to commemorate the famous raid which took place just after midnight on D-Day, when six gliders were dispatched from England to capture two bridges in Normandy, in order to prevent them from being blown up by the Germans when the D-Day invasion took place a few hours later. The raid was stunningly successful, and is credited with having done a lot to ensure the success of the invasion.
The six platoons of soldiers who took part in the raid were all from the airborne battalion of the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, the regiment which Michael joined for his two years of National Service in the British Army. As a result he knew several of the men who had taken part, and so was a natural choice to create and perform this commemorative show. The first half describes the lead-up to D-Day 1944. The second, told in 'free-cantering verse', recounts the story of the raid itself. THE PEGASUS BRIDGE SHOW was designed as a fundraiser for war casualties in the UK, and Michael toured it there in the Fall of 2008, as a prelude to the 45th anniversary of D-Day in 2009. Sixty per cent of the proceeds from sales will go to Veterans Charity in the UK. $ 20.00 plus shipping&handling
